Tommy Yannima Watson
Title: Ngayuku Ngura (My Country), size 120 x 90 cm.
Dreaming: This painting celebrates the artist's sacred connection to Country. Densely layered and thickly dotted, with linear form, Tommy deploys his strong signature colours this time substituting deep purple for orange. Importantly, Tommy depicts no identifiable iconographic form or colour in any of his work that could give the uninitiated insight into sacred ritual knowledge. Instead, the titles of Tommy's paintings describe places or encounters of personal and private significance, which he did not share or expand upon.
