Katherine Wood was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1975. She studied Fine Arts at Stellenbosch University in Cape Town for four years, earning her Bachelors degree in 1997. The following year, she added to her creative understanding with a Diploma in Interior Decorating from Intec College in Cape Town. For the next few years Katherine lived in Scotland and Australia studying and developing various art techniques including a year of graphic design at The Computer Graphics School in Melbourne, Australia.
Today Katherine is an internationally acclaimed artist, enjoying phenomenal success with collectors around the globe. There have been many achievements along the way:
- Invited to exhibit at 2008 Beijing Olympics
- Nominated as Art International's Artist of the month, Nov 2008
- Has owned her own signature gallery since 2004 in South Africa and now spends time between her home in Queensland, Australia where she resides with her family and in Knysna, South Africa.
- Held numerous highly successful group and solo exhibitions incl. London, Dubai, New York, Sydney, Brisbane, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban AND Noosa Heads to name a few
In 2001 Katherine returned to South Africa and married husband Duncan, in 2002. The same year, she opened an art gallery called 'Klarity' in Observatory, Cape Town where Katherine managed and promoted young, promising artists. In 2003, she was also the curator for a show featuring more than 100 artists exhibiting throughout the streets of Observatory.
After returning to painting in 2002 and exhibiting her own work in 'Klarity' gallery, Katherine realised her real passion lay solely with painting. Her work was in demand so she sold the gallery and focused on producing more works and supplying representative Galleries throughout South Africa.
In 2004, after numerous successful solo and group shows, Katherine and her husband moved to the coastal town of Knysna and opened their signature gallery, Katherine Wood Fine Art. Duncan became the full time manager promoted Katherine works both through their own gallery, and via her agents and Galleries worldwide.
In 2012, Katherine and Duncan made the decision to move to Noosa Heads in Queensland, Australia so Katherine could more easily service her growing Asia Pacific agent and gallery base. She splits her time between Australia and South Africa producing work in both places to keep up with demand.
Katherine's work is featured in private and corporate collections around the world.
